However, apart from being home to beautiful golf courses, Scottsdale also hosts a number of golf tournaments that are sanctioned by the Arizona Golf Association (AGA).
One of these tournaments is the WM Phoenix Open Golf Tournament, which is part of the PGA Tour, drawing very large crowds and some of the best professional golf players in the world. This tournament is usually staged in January in the Tournament Players Golf Club of Scottsdale and the ticket prices for this tournament are usually about $20 per day.
Another popular golf tournament held in Scottsdale is the Scottsdale Swing Canadian Tour Golf Tournament, which is held during March in the Palm Course at McCormick Ranch Golf Club. This tournament is a result of the collaboration between the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau with the Golf Channel and the Canada Tour, which is also an internationally recognized golf tournament. Late January's WM Open Golf Tournament; is the by far the biggest. Held at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Scottsdale, it attracts more spectators than any other golf tournament in the world (more than 500,000 each year). The 18th hole has standing room for 40,000. Tickets start at $25.
The World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship will again be played at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz., in 2012. The event, which is the first of four World Golf Championships of the season, has been played in the Tucson area since 2007 and at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain since 2009. The 2012 Accenture Match Play Championship is scheduled for Feb. 20-26.
